A personal project that features portraits of refugees who have arrived in Italy from countries plagued by war and poverty and are awaiting asylum. While history honors famous journeyers, these refugees embark on dangerous travels not for glory, money or war but for freedom.
What shift in values leads us to hand over the first ones to history and ignore the others? With a provocative choice, therefore, these guys, mostly from Africa, but also
from Afghanistan and Pakistan, they dress like the great travelers of the world, as if to demand it same respect and dignity for their gestures.
I have photographed them as historical and famous figures, such as Colombo, Magellan, David Livingstone, Jacque Cousteau, King Alfred, Amelia Earhart, Robert Peary, Napoleon, Gengis Khan, Henry Morton Stanley, Alexander the Great and other explorers, conquistadors and generals, inspired by classic paintings and photographs.
