The end of the day

Another hard day of work at the dump has ended. The thick, cold cloak of night threatens to descend upon the barren, desolate plain. Men, women, and children gather the salvageable items from the piles of trash and return to their fragile huts for the night. Late afternoon is the only time for peace and rest. They gaze vaguely at the horizon in silence, as if eagerly awaiting something that could change their destiny. But they know that tomorrow will be just like all the others.
