Ara Ní Rántí, Ẹ̀mí Ní Rí (Body Remembers, Spirit Sees): The Six Chapters of Black Witness

This project is an investigative journey into the Black interior life. It serves as a visual record of the spiritual energy and memory held within the Diaspora community. By following these six chapters, the viewer sees a journey of stewardship and survival.



Chapter 1: Girl, Don't Be Silent. This investigates the silencing of children. The tree behind her is a traditional witness, used in many African cultures to hold the truths that society refuses to speak.

Chapter 2: Prison of the Mind. Here, a bedroom becomes a courtroom. It shows a body negotiating with memory, where shame and silence are the only witnesses to one's internal thoughts.

Chapter 3: The Mask Does Not Lie. This chapter looks at the mask as a tool for survival. Cowries at the throat represent a language of value and protection that survived history.

Chapter 4: Marks on the Face, History in the Mouth. I used neon lashes to mix futurism with tradition. The facial markings turn the face into a map of lineage and belonging.

Chapter 5: Colour Is a Voice. This is an argument for joy as an act of resistance. The headpiece is a sculpted halo, representing spiritual abundance and the choice to shine after hardship

.Chapter 6: The Divine Lives in Me. The series ends with a study of divine accountability. The eyes have no pupils to represent a spiritual gaze that is older than the body.

My goal is to document these untold histories so they are preserved as a permanent part of our culture.
