Pollination
Pollination is an essential process for the reproduction of many plants. It occurs when pollen is transferred from the male part of the flower, called the anther, to the female part, called the stigma. This process allows the plant to produce seeds and fruits.
Various agents can carry out pollination, such as wind, water, and especially animals. Among the main pollinators are bees, butterflies, bats, birds, and also hummingbirds. While seeking nectar in flowers for food, these animals end up transporting pollen from one flower to another.
Pollination is fundamental for maintaining biodiversity and for the production of many foods consumed by humans. Without pollinators, a large number of plants would struggle to reproduce, which would affect ecosystems and agriculture.
