Subway Series

Since my early boyhood in the Bronx, the subway has been imbued with a magical, almost mystical, aura. It was how my father took me to see a game at Yankee Stadium, where I was wonderstruck by the enormous field and grass greener than I could ever imagine. The subject in Elliot Erwitt's renowned photograph of a kid looking out the first-car window of the now-defunct Third Avenue El could have been me. Over the past dozen years, I've been seeking to capture the aura of the subways - day and night, indoors and out, throughout the seasons.
