Japanese macaques are the northern-most living non-human primates in the world. They are well adapted to live in sub-zero conditions. Despite this, they seemed to be strangely curious about freshly fallen snow.
During a nature trip in Japan, I caught a group of Japanese macaques spontaneously licking freshly fallen snow off each other’s fur. It was as if they are experiencing snow for the first time!
