The Brandt's cormorant is a seabird found only in North America with a range along the coast from Alaska to Mexico. San Miguel Island, the westernmost island in Channel Islands National Park, is home to the most important breeding colony of this species in Southern California. Brandt's cormorants nest in colonies on the ground including cliffs, islands, and offshore rocks.
