Alexander McCall Smith CBE was Professor of Medical Law at the University of Edinburgh before he became a full-time author.



He is the author of over one hundred books on a wide range of topics. His best-known series of books is The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, set in Botswana, of which there are now twenty volumes in print. Other series include the Isabel Dalhousie novels and the 44 Scotland series, both set in Edinburgh.



His books are translated into forty-six languages and published all over the world.
