A spontaneous change of plan due to the weather brought me to this wonderful place at sunset. Háifoss (correctly: Háifoss í Fossá) is the third highest waterfall at 122 meters and is located in Fossárdalur, the rearmost part of Þjórsárdalur. It is formed by the river Fossá í Þjórsárdal, which later flows into the Þjórsá. The waterfall can be reached either by a three-hour hike from the Stöng farm (an old Viking longhouse, which was probably buried under ash when the Hekla erupted in 1104) or via a seven-kilometer, extremely bumpy gravel road
