Neuschwanstein Castle in the Ostallgäu was built from 1869 for the Bavarian King Ludwig II as an idealized idea of a knight's castle from the Middle Ages. Neuschwanstein is the most famous of the castles of Ludwig II and one of the most famous sights in Germany. It is visited by around 1.5 million tourists annually.
