Zanzibari Seaweed Farms

Zanzibari Seaweed Farms photo series are taken in the northeast part of Zanzibar Island, Tanzania. When low tide, the Indian ocean draws back about 2 km and you are able to see and experience things which in other case you will not be able - like seaweed collection in seaweed farms. More than 25,000 people (mostly local women) are involved in that process in Tanzania, which is the third exporter in the world. The seaweed’s carrageenan-richness and emulsifiers are used for the beauty, pharmaceutical and food industry.
