Benevolence

The photo was taken at the Uganda National Mosque, aka Gadaffi Mosque, located in Kampala, Uganda. I was welcomed by a guide who kindly assisted me in wearing a hijab and abaya to convey respect for the culture and beliefs as I toured the mosque. At first glance, the photo depicts our worldly differences: a Ugandan and an American, a Muslim and a Christian. A deeper view reveals a more reflective interpretation that captures the essence of my experience, thoughts, and feelings. With mutual kindness and goodwill, our differences inspired curiosity to learn and understand. We shared a common virtue - benevolence.
