Having completed my modeling gig for the day and no one else needing help, I stood in the cave and just took a few moments in. I observed a bird-like ice structure protruding from the cave's roof during this time. Instantly I got a fire in my belly, and my heart started pumping. This was my shot for the day. I grabbed the camera and took several photos at slightly different angles until I finally got the one I loved.

My friend and I first experienced the beauty of Big Blue in August 2020. Our plan to get into the cave with pack rafts was put on hold as the cave was full of ice. We returned in December with Paul, and we could get into Big Blue this time. Immediately we were flabbergasted at how big and blue it was. Since then, we have planned our annual migration back to Big Blue. Many birds migrate south to escape our winters. The ice bird and our annual migration inspire the title – Migration.
