Before my trip to Bhutan, my mental image of the Himalaya was of rugged mountains that towered at unfathomable heights. Boy, did I discover this mental image was wrong on our 7-day trek? It felt like we travelled to many parts of the world in one place. On day 7, with exhaustion at its maximum and our focus on the rugged 1,600-meter descent, we came across a scene that took you back to any coast in the world. I could almost smell the salt in the air, or perhaps it was the salt from the exertion of our bodies. The coolness from the scene was a welcome break from the rugged, hot, steep descent. Capturing the image, I focus on the remaining descent and the joy of reaching the bottom.
