African Forest Elephants are the elusive cousins of the better-known African savanna elephants. They inhabit the dense rainforests of west and central Africa. African Forest Elephants are much more agressive than their savanna cousins, especially outside the safety of their forest home. As soon as this mother elephant spotted our vehicle, she started to run at is in a (mock) charge. Her calf had difficulty getting out of her way. Satisfied with sending us her message, the pair disappeared into their dense forest home, where vehicles cannot follow. Taken in Gabon's Loango National Park.
