One summer day I went outside for a walk wearing one of my Kilts and getting some Miscellanea of looks from other people, like confused or reprove and it was not normal, because the locals are quite open-minded and have a good level of acceptance then it struck me, “yeah, it’s weekend, lot of tourists!”

So what? It’s just a Kilt, it’s comfortable for summer, imagine if it was something more feminine. Being in such situation just made me remember complains of women when they say that feel uncomfortable wearing certain pieces of clothing outside on the street. Or just being denied the choice of outfits because of the cultural background.

In a society where supposedly we have the freedom to fashion ourselves the way we want in our free time and still be respected but in the end. The comments and toxicity from a more closed culture should be left at home, especially if you are visiting other cultures. And as an individual you can outgrow your cultural boundaries, I know this because in my homeland, going outside in plain daylight with a kilt I would get a lot of comments or as an spectator would be pressured to do that same comments.

Then it occurred to me if the image of a man wearing a Kilt is weird and uncommon I’m going to make it weirder by putting some tights to the mix and a not so conservative posing in an image.

But I’m not here to reprogram or reshape different cultural backgrounds, just to leave a call-out that you can use your own liberty to experience, explore and expand even if someone calls you the black sheep or makes you feel an outcast.

In my experiments I have found out how cool it is to mix pieces of clothing from both genders to create outfits and photograph myself wearing them, no longer feel ashamed to share these works and no negative words will keep my from exploring this concept. I have never been part of the mainstream, nor will my photography be.
