I still can’t believe I captured this shot of the Colosseum. After exploring the Roman Forum early one morning, we walked around the Colosseum, hoping to find the perfect angle. Many of my planned spots were inaccessible due to a marathon, and I was starting to feel discouraged. But as we were about to complete the loop, I noticed a small patch of sunlight on the ground. I quickly adjusted my camera’s settings and snapped the shot. I only had a few seconds before a school group arrived, flooding the area with people. Timing was everything—I was lucky to get the shot just in time.

The Colosseum itself is a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Built in 72 AD and completed in 80 AD, it’s the largest amphitheater ever constructed. It once hosted gladiator battles and grand spectacles for up to 80,000 spectators. Standing before it, I felt connected to history, capturing a moment in time.
