SOUL

In the summer of 2024, I returned to my home in the center of Beijing. My home is located in the area where Beijing's traditional buildings "Hutong" are located. Passing by these historical buildings every day makes me often think about the relationship between people and things, the past and the present. Gradually, I am not satisfied with just passing by, and I am more and more curious about the stories that are happening and have happened in the buildings. So I decided to use Beijing craftsmen as a starting point to record the process of traditional handicrafts from scratch, reflecting the deep relationship between people and things.



I visited many old towns and workshops in Beijing, communicated with craftsmen, and learned about their family skills, life stories and love for creation. Through this shooting, I was able to witness the ancient skills and the lives of craftsmen that have gradually faded in the process of modernization. Photography is not only an artistic expression, but also an important tool for recording and inheriting culture.
