This self-portrait concept wasn't born out of vanity or ego, in fact, quite the opposite. My ongoing journey to self-love and acceptance has been quite a long one, with hurdles of chronic illness, surgeries, scars and medication side-effects frequently setting me back. It would be easy to allow these experiences to cause further self-loathing. But to do so, would be to disrespect the woman on this pedestal, the lessons she's learned and the battles she's fought, and won.
So, I will sit upon this pedestal with past versions of myself at my feet--again not out of ego or arrogance and certainly not in pursuit of perfection, but out of honoring for all versions of myself and the difficult journey it took to get here. Because each step, each scar, each battle and silent fight has molded me into this woman.
I will honor her. I will forgive her. I will embrace her flaws and insecurities. I will treat her with the kindness and compassion she deserves. I will love her. I will worship her.
