The "Blank Mannequin" photo series transforms Star Wars’ Stormtrooper into a luxury model, dressed by the most iconic fashion brands (Armani, Dior, Versace, Louis Vuitton…). The character is captured with the precision of a professional fashion studio, creating a jarring effect: the armor, a symbol of anonymity and uniformity, becomes an ironic canvas to explore brand worship and the performativity of contemporary identity.
The shots trigger an involuntary visual short-circuit in the viewer. The faceless, expressionless model adopts the typical anonymity of fashion photography, sculpted by lighting that makes plastic reflections gleam like silk or leather. Logos and styles, stitched or printed onto the armor, become paradoxical decorations: Bottega Veneta on a galactic soldier, Prada on a warrior without a war.
Photobot plays with absurdity, but behind the humor lies a question: What remains of the individual when identity is entirely constructed by external symbols? The irony, combined with bot-generated realism, shifts our focus. First, we question whether Photobot’s works are real—then we ask why we care.
The choice of brands is no accident. These are names that sell not just products but mythologies and clichés: Italian elegance, Parisian chic, Spanish avant-garde, American ostentation. All are fused with a pop icon that, by definition, represents the opposite: anonymity, mass conformity, obedience.
Is this a veiled critique of consumerism? A tribute to fashion’s transformative power? Or simply a stylistic exercise testing AI’s potential?
The series deliberately leaves these questions open. It is a project that courts ambiguity, offering no answers but forcing viewers to look twice. Yes, we laugh at a Stormtrooper in Versace. But then, perhaps, we wonder: Aren’t we, too, just empty suits armored in symbols imposed by others?
