1 Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?
My name is Mateusz Brejnak, and I've been captivated by the world through my lens since 2021, with an earlier chapter in my photographic journey between 2012 and 2014. My passion lies in the heartbeat of city life
2 Where did you study photography?
My photography skills were nurtured at Grunwald Studio in Wroc?aw, where I mastered the basics, and further refined through the 'Mistrz Kreacji' online course by Szymon Brodziak.
3 Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
My first photo, taken on a school trip, featured a garden with green grass, a fountain, and a tree, humorously marred by a cable in the corner. The second was my debut portrait.
4 What equipment do you use?
Canon EOS M50 Mark II with different scopes, lighting and a tripod.
5 What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
I received a compliment on my modern architecture photography set. One of the most respected local photographers congratulated me, which was incredibly meaningful to me.
6 What inspires your unique storytelling?
I strive for uniqueness through my art and urban photography, seeking new perspectives to ensure my work is anything but ordinary.
7 What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
Various, specific and selective.
8 Congratulations! As the winner of the MUSE Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
It's significant as these are my first pieces to win silver awards.
9 Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the MUSE Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
'Roses' was photographed in 2022 and I just waited for a good moment to capture it. 'Land' was photographed close to the border of Poland and Czech Republic. 'Reflections' was made in cooperation with a beautiful model. The location of this image is close to the National Forum of Music.
10 How has winning an award developed your career?
It has given me assurance to not rush into my photography which then gave me some peace of mind.
11 Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
Marcin Ryszek, Szymon Brodziak and Anita Andrzejewska - Polish photographers.
12 What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
Do what you believe - it's difficult when you don't know clearly about which path you should take. I wish I could say I've found my path earlier!
13 What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
You could focus on learning the technical details of photography or just select photos you personally think feels good for you.
14 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Success depends on connecting with the right people at the right moment. While it may seem unbelievable at the start if results aren't immediate, it's crucial to keep trying.
15 How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?
I would go on social media, mostly Instagram and Unsplash. I would also get local information about exhibitions on galleries.
