Gina Wu is a photographer who started with a love for beauty using a mobile phone camera. Her journey evolved from selfies to landscape photography, connecting her with fellow enthusiasts and deepening her passion. As an amateur photographer, she enjoys capturing the aesthetic moments of everyday life, her works include the award-winning "Bombing Lord Handan."
1 Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?
Inspired by a natural love for beauty and armed with a mobile phone camera, I began with selfies, moved to portrait photography, and eventually embraced landscape photography. Along the way, I connected with fellow enthusiasts and fully entered the world of photography.
2 Where did you study photography?
I honed my photography skills by observing the aesthetic beauty in everyday life and capturing scenes that caught my eye. I dedicated my time to taking more pictures and immersing myself in reading about aesthetics and art during the weekdays.
3 Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
It was street photography, I remember my first shot was recording the scenery of people and traffic passing through the streets and alleys.
4 What equipment do you use?
The equipment I use for my photography is a humble mobile phone and a single-lens camera.
5 What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
A compliment that inspired me was the comment, "I love your photography so much!"
6 What inspires your unique storytelling?
Any beautiful person or thing can make me happy emotionally, and I want to inject this energy into my work.
7 What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
Emotional, artistic, and real.
8 Congratulations! As the winner of the MUSE Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
Thank you! Winning the MUSE Photography Awards is an incredible honor. I am deeply grateful for the recognition from international photography organizations and judges, as it brings me one step closer to achieving my dream.
9 Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the MUSE Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
This is a very special ceremony in Taitung, Taiwan. It is generally believed that the Lord of Handan is the God of Wealth. Someone will be selected to play the role of Lord Handan. The man was wearing only a pair of red shorts and covered his face with a towel. He holds a branch in his hand to protect himself. He would then be carried on a sedan chair and firecrackers would be thrown at his naked body.
10 How has winning an award developed your career?
Being able to win awards for your favorite interests means that you are recognized in the field of photography.
11 Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
Ru Fang Dong ,Wang Chen Che, and Zhang Deng Feng.
12 What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
Keep the purity of your original intention.
13 What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
Firstly, you should understand what sort of style you like best. Once you have your style, practice! Practice a lot and do practical exercises; make efforts to attempt these exercises.
14 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Be willing to accept advice from others and continuous learning. Stick to what you love and maintain enthusiasm and motivation.
15 How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?
If you are interested in what you like, you will realize and feel the information and details it brings into your daily life.
