Interview
Spain
Patrcia Madrid makes strong commitments towards her obsession in photography, creating her own versions of storytelling.
1 Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?
I am a Spanish photographer, but more than a photographer I consider myself a storyteller, that is what inspires me.
2 Where did you study photography?
I have received training in many aspects related to photography, right now I have decided to bet on the history of art.
3 Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
Impossible, it was so small that I can't remember it. What if I know who was the person who showed me that photographing was not pressing a button. It was my uncle, a photography enthusiast who took wonderful shots (in analog!) The magic of photography in me was born in his camera.
4 What equipment do you use?
I use canon and profoto professional equipment, although I don't think it's important, but how it is used
5 What do you hope to achieve?
winning the gold medal I think is already something wonderful, I hope to continue growing in this wonderful world and to be able to share it, the next goal is yet to come
6 What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
When I was little, an aunt always told me that I would achieve what I set out to do, and although art is not always understood by loved ones, I feel honored to be able to do what I like.
7 What inspires your unique storytelling?
That has always been the key to my work. What I'm most passionate about in the world is telling stories, it's that simple. I have used the tools that I have always had at my disposal to do so, and I hope to continue being able to count them, and create them.
8 What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
passionate, constant and narrative
9 Congratulations! As the winner of the MUSE Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
I couldn't believe that I was a gold winner, really. It is something that makes me continue to want to grow. I am also proud to have achieved it by sending a single image. And this image is so special to me..
10 Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 MUSE Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
I only sent this image, and it was because I knew it was special, which it is. there is a lot of passion and feeling in this work, there is more than meets the eye. I feel inspired by my role model (who is my eldest son) who makes me improve myself over and over again,
11 How has winning an award developed your career?
I suppose that it will bring me diffusion and that they know me outside of Spain, hopefully the exhibition project that I have for abroad can materialize.
12 Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
I could say so many, I have so many wonderful photographers around Eugenio Recuenco, annie leivobitz, peter lindbergh...
13 What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
The best advice I've ever been given is to work hard, I see it as valid as when I was told many years ago. I try to apply it and feel proud of what I do
14 What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
the best advice is that if you don't believe in yourself nobody will, fight for your dreams, improve, get promoted and work hard. It is the way to success.
15 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
only hard work
16 How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?
I try to set aside some time from my day to day for my personal projects, where I can create freely.
