I enjoy walking in the woods, both on the path and off the path. If I'm not with a friend I bring my camera. My favorite woods are Eagle Point Park in Dubuque, Iowa, Veteran's Acres in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and the Forest Preserve District of Kane County (this last is a new and ironically titled owner of the area adjacent the Fox River between Algonquin and Carpentersville, Illinois). I've been making photographs for 42 years. I think of myself first as an alchemist. I use polarities such as intent/openness and obscure/reveal to invite synchronicity, serendipity and surprise into my art making. In fact, these three S's (synchronicity, serendipity and surprise) are so prevalent in my art that I use two more polarities to describe what I am doing: creation/discovery, and work/play. I enjoy exploring the outer edges of what a camera, or a software application, can and cannot do. Right there, at technology's limits, is the most interesting place. I had previously shot in each of these regions with first a 35 mm camera, and then a medium format camera. These images are from my work with a digital camera these past two years.
