My intention in this picture was to combine ballet, a traditional art form, with less conventional elements like a body that is partly naked and a prop like tulle. For this performance, I chose Aleksa as a nude dancer because we have worked together as photographer and model for many years. Most of her pictures taken by other photographers show her in the nude, even when she is performing ballet in a photo studio. I often prefer to show nudity only partially by using simple props. By making use of this transparent element, I tried to give a less erotic touch to the photo while still allowing the viewer to see the contours of the model's body. Given her experience and talent, I allowed Aleksa to improvise a series of poses that partially hid her nudity and emphasized a certain elegance and fluidity. The light is natural as the model performed next to a window in a studio. The credits for this picture go to her as she knew which movements would create a scene where nudity and elements of eroticism are more subtle. The decision to use black and white was taken during the retouching process to accentuate the contrasts between the body and the tulle in a graceful movement. Finally, I chose a square format to better emphasize the curves in a certain geometrical way and to remove the unnecessary in the picture.
