Fukushima, March 11, 2011. On that day, Japan was struck by a severe disaster.

A huge tsunami led to destruction, people fleeing, entire stretches of land wiped out and, not least, the destroyed Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant.

In 2015, my journey took me through almost all contaminated areas, to ghost towns, impassable roads, abandoned vehicles or even almost completely restored cities.

In 2019 I returned.

My goal was to visit the locations of the last trip to have a direct comparison. Not only my old paths occupied me on the trip. The ongoing clean-up work made it possible for me to develop previously inaccessible areas. I also managed to get access to the “red zones” where time actually seems to stand still.
