"A Terrible Peace: Afghanistan's Descent into Deeper Poverty" a journey through a nation at a historic crossroads, balancing between the remnants of war and the ever-increasing poverty that peace brought. Over three weeks, I captured the resilience and the adversity faced by the Afghan people, navigating a landscape both stark and stunning.



Pic 1 features a seasoned old man guarding the Blue Mosque in Herat. His role, earned through a history of combat, likely includes battles against Soviet forces, making him a living embodiment of Afghanistan's tumultuous past.



Pic 2 introduces a shepherd in the midst of vast, empty landscapes, representing Afghanistan's dependence on pastoral life. This shepherd, possibly encountering a foreigner for the first time, symbolizes the isolation and simplicity of rural existence.



In Pic 3, the vibrant chaos of Kabul's bird market is distilled in the image of a woman with her family, a snapshot of daily life in the city's throbbing heart.
