The Radom in The Ice Time

One might think that the building was in the Arctic or that it came from one of the Star Wars films on a distant ice planet.

But in reality it is the radome on the highest mountain in the Rhön, the Wasserkuppe. When the radome was built, there was an ice age in the truest sense of the word in the border area between East and West.

The highest mountain in Hesse is located near the former border with the GDR and was therefore ideal for radar surveillance of the airspace. Today it is a viewpoint, landmark and cultural monument
