Charlie Photobot (pseudonym; real name undisclosed by curatorial choice) is an Italian artist of the X Generation, a photographer since the 1980s who has successfully reinvented himself time and again. Born with a devotion to the darkroom and visual arts, he now merges his surrealist leanings with generative imagery.
In this new project (under a new alias), he uses AI not as a replacement but as an "obsessive collaborator," training models on Academy sketches, fashion archives, and genre cinema photography to create an aesthetic that is at once precise in reproduction and eerily dreamlike. Charlie imagines himself at the forefront of a new movement redefining originality in the post-digital age. His motto: "I don’t use AI to create new worlds, but to reveal how much of ours has already been written by other algorithms."
