The courtship of the Great Argus Pheasant is quite elaborate. He will run around the female while stomping his feet and then all of a sudden will run right at her and invert his wings over and around his head exposing the many "eyes" of his secondary feathers creating a dazzling image. This movement only lasts a second or two and when he does it, he carefully frames his wings around his face so that he can see if the female is paying attention. It is difficult to capture this moment because the female is usually standing right in front of him when he does it. I was very fortunate because I captured this frame as the female lowered her head for a moment to eat a mealworm that was on the floor!
